EcoFarm, Together Apart
I went kicking and screaming to the virtual EcoFarm conference this year.
I've been doing a terrible job of showing up to the online webinars that I register for, and have a sizable backlog of bookmarked online commitments left unwatched.
Knowing that I would never watch a recording, I made myself sit in front of my laptop for the last four days with a notepad and pen and be present and focused with a virtual community.
And!
I'm SO GLAD that I did. Somehow the organizers were able to create the same sense of togetherness, inspiration, growing, learning, and soul blooming as in real life.
Last year dealt a number of blows to my habitat and education work - and left me feeling so isolated, hopeless, disillusioned, and like a failure. Thanks to a deluge of completely badass (mostly female) speakers who continue to push forward through the muck of agriculture - I am reminded that envisioning and imagining a better world where all have a right relationship with their food, environment, and communities is not a pipe dream.
Progress is happening, even in the most broken system in America, I have been reminded.
Here you'll find a collection of totally unorganized links from the talks that I attended this year, and here are a few memories from past EcoFarms - starting in 2013!
EcoFarm has always been a time of rest, rejuvenation, recovery, re-awakening, and also it's been like trying to drink water out of a fire hose! *So much* information. I can say that this year is no different. While I missed sprints to the white sand beach between talks, attending a four day conference in sweatpants was pretty great, too.
