Save Elephants, Restore Nature, Support Beekeeping Communities⠀
When I first heard of living "bee fences" to deter elephants from farms - I was in love! As you know I love win-win-win solutions to conservation issues.⠀
⠀
Farmers win from keeping their farms for being decimated by elephants, and they get to harvest honey; elephants win by decreasing their farmer/animal contact, which results in decreased poaching; and bees win by having a whole host of fancy new hives to move into, and keepers to keep them!⠀
⠀
BGO has made a serendipitous connection with Wild Survivors. The founder and executive director, Francesca, and I have found that there is so much commonality between conservation issues in the Western US and Tanzania, and we have so much to share and learn. I hope to travel to Tanzania, post-pandemic, to learn more about this project and meet the people who make it go!⠀
⠀
Until then, I will virtually trek the footsteps I hope to walk (or run if being chased by an elephant or Apis scutellata) in person someday soon.⠀
⠀
Will you consider sponsoring my run for elephants and bees?
My goal is to raise $500 (£365) for Wild Survivors, while running 54K over 30 days. You could sponsor $1 (£ 0.73) a mile for the whole thing, or pick a section of the trail you want to sponsor - make a donation for the amount, and I’m off!!
Visit the link below, and click the yellow donate button. I'll be notified when you donate - then will run a few miles for you!

I have signed up to run, walk or cycle 54km in 30 days, following the footsteps of elephants across the Great Rift Valley! By sponsoring the challenge, you are protecting a critical migration corridor that sustains an abundance of wildlife and biodiverse forests.
The Big Stomp virtual challenge connects two iconic habitat ranges: Lake Manyara National Park and the ancient Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. Elephants must attempt this same route regularly in order to reach fresh food, water, and vital nutrient sources. Challenge yourself to cover the distance while directly protecting a vital ecosystem that both wildlife and rural communities depend on.
Keep an eye out for my activities and challenge photos on my Fundraising page, and details on the trail as I progress (posted on Instagram)
